The 10 most important questions to ask before purchasing controlling
software
1 Does the software adequately cover all the cornerstones
of controlling (planning, information, analysis and management), providing
you with vital transparency in each area?
2 Does the software enable top-down, bottom-up and counteractive planning
to be carried out centrally as well as locally, irrespective of location,
and can it calculate and display alternative simulations flexibly over
different time-spans and according to varying parameters?
3 Does the software assist both operative controlling (hard facts) and
strategic controlling (soft facts), thereby meeting the requirements
of creditors and other interested parties?
4 Does the software provide business management support (management key
ratios, calculations as required, management structures and complete
business management analyses)?
5 Can planning/actual variances be analysed using the drill-down procedure?
6 Does the controlling software contain attractively presented, flexible
and dynamic reporting, and can it produce reports with extensive textual
annotations and commentaries (e.g. quarterly reports)?
7 Can the controlling software calculate and display complex business
interrelationships such as integrated financial statements, plan balance
sheets and cash flow statements?
8 Can data and structures be put into graphs and analysed conveniently,
flexibly and without any limitations?
9 Is the software able to display rolling time spans over several financial
years with all sorts of budget/actual comparisons (plan 1, plan 2,
forecast, etc.)?
10 Can the software access data flexibly from any pre-system, retrieve
actual data and transfer planning figures, and even access individual
documents as part of an integrated solution?
