What was your starting point?
Our starting point was a high-maintenance Excel reporting system that was extremely complicated to use and susceptible to error. Generating valid data as a basis for regular reports and prompt responses to ad-hoc enquiries was only possible to a limited extent. In addition, the different financial reporting standards around the world couldn’t all be fully merged into a group standard.
What were your highlights?
Our highlights included the integration of data from diverse back-office systems and the modular structure. The personal customer service during the implementation phase and the highly competent support during operation have played a significant part in the substantial efficiency gain that we’ve achieved in our regular reporting.
What lessons have you learned?
When implementing appropriate standardization and harmonization, it’s extremely important to bear regional characteristics and cultural differences in mind to ensure acceptance within the company. In our case, displaying the local level and the group structure side by side in one system has led to an improvement in our internal communication.
